Alex Valoroso

Bio: I am an experienced Gender Equity Advisor, with a background in gender-based analysis plus (GBA+), disaster management, gender and disaster, and community development/recovery. I hold an MA in Disaster and Emergency Management and specialized training in GenderPro, Rapid Gender Analysis in Emergencies, Addressing GBV in Emergencies, Shelter Management, and International Humanitarian Law.

I sit on the board of the Canadian Journal of Emergency Management, and participate as a guest speaker on several podcasts, presentations, and lectures focusing on gender and disaster, and GBA+. I am equally passionate about addressing gender-based violence and volunteer as the Vice President of my local women's resource centre.

Dedicated to working with communities, I offer extensive practitioner experience in emergency management throughout BC, and during various responses in Canada. Previously, I operated with the Canadian Red Cross and international NGOs such as Doctors without Borders (MSF) and Cuso International. Coupled with this work is my extensive background in small business operations, staff training, and conflict management.

As a guest on the ancestral lands of the Lhtako Dene, I am grateful to have the opportunity to continue my learning journey and work in a good way. I take an intersectional feminist approach to my work and believe that by working together, we can achieve gender equity and social inclusion.
